Our Story So Far

Back in the long, balmy summer of 2017, a little fox awoke, stretched and yawned. In the midst of the early morning haze a sudden thought or three popped into our furry hero's head.

What if people could get their gas and electricity at a fraction of the cost?

What if people could receive clean electricity, solely produced by UK wind?

What if the energy market could change for the better?

It was in that moment; Outfox the Market was born.

Since that fateful day, Outfox the Market has helped tens of thousands of customers save hundreds of pounds on their energy and reduce their carbon footprint.

In those early halcyon days, there was less choice for the average energy consumer. Most people were supplied by the dreaded ‘Big 6’. Tragically, people were paying far too much for their gas and electricity.

You remember the Big 6!? - EDF (Owned by the French), Eon, Npower (Owned by the Germans), Scottish Power (Owned by the Spanish), SSE and not forgetting the biggest of the big - British Gas.

They controlled the market with a fossil-fuelled fist, paying huge dividends to their gluttonous shareholders raised from the extortionate profit-driven prices of the much-maligned standard variable tariff.

It was the job of the fox and other challenger brands to disrupt this sordid status quo.

But how best to do it?

The fox, whilst cunning, also had large ambitions and thus, got in touch with the largest producer of wind produced electricity – namely DONG (Now Orsted following a rebrand).

The Danish energy giant were impressed with our fearless fox and agreed to supply Outfox the Market with gas and electricity produced from their wind farms off the coast of the UK.

Orsted have been ranked the most sustainable company in the world and are aiming to create a world that runs entirely on green energy. They were a perfect fit for our environmentally-conscious cub.

Boosted by the backing of Orsted, Outfox the Market launched to the British public in September 2017. It didn’t take long for the good word of the fox to spread. The mix of cleaner and cheaper energy had the Big 6 on the backfoot.

The tide was turning but the fox was not greedy. The last thing she wanted was to grow too big and too fast.

Customer service was a big part of what the fox stood for and she quickly introduced the ‘Live Chat’ service. Customers loved it. No longer did they have to wait 15 minutes to speak to their energy supplier. They simply clicked on the foxy website and chatted to staff in less than 10 seconds.

Outfox the Market began to grow as news spread about the supplier who was helping customers pay less for their energy.

Never one to relax - improvements followed! A brand-new, sleek website was introduced in the spring of 2019 making it easier and quicker for customers to manage their account.

New tariffs were launched to suit customers will all sorts of requirements. There really was something for everyone.

Fast forward 2 and a half years and the fox is stronger than ever. Customers continue to save fantastic amounts on their energy and 8000 happy customers have rated them as ‘Excellent’ on Trustpilot.

The future looks even better. 2020 promises the roll-out of SMETS2 smart meters, making it even easier for customers to manage their energy use.

While things have evolved, the fox remains committed to ensuring customers have access to cheaper and cleaner energy.
